DBO Joins Whitby Chamber of Commerce - January 24th, 2004

We are pleased to start off the year by joining the Whitby Chamber of Commerce.

In an effort to participate more in the business community we searched for the right organization that reflected the type and size of businesses that we are tailored to service. After much research and networking we felt that the Whitby Chamber fit that profile. While there are many other organizations (other local chambers and boards of trade and associations) Whitby was in the center of our customer base and has a community focus that we really liked. This doesn't preclude us from involvement in other associations as time goes on and the company develops but it does give us a starting point from which to grow.

About the Whitby Chamber of Commerce

The Whitby Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary, not-for-profit association of business and professional people. The members share a common interest and pride in their community and want to work together to make Whitby a better place in which to work and live. It is an organization that was federally chartered in 1928 at the urging of several Whitby business people. Now, in its 75th year, the Whitby Chamber of Commerce has over 600 members. It forms an integral part of the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce network, representing over 60,000 businesses in Ontario and over 170,000 across Canada. The purpose of the Chamber today is very similar to the original established in 1928:

bulletTo advance the economic, civic, and welfare of Whitby.
bulletTo promote good government and sound legislation at all levels of government.
bulletTo believe in and support the private enterprise system.
bulletTo assist and co-operate with organizations that seek to raise and expand the business, social, cultural, and educational standards of Whitby, and to improve the welfare of its citizens.

The Whitby Chamber of Commerce is the single largest business organization in our community. As we move ahead with our strategic plan and look to the future, your continued involvement is a vital part of the process. We will continue to work hard in order to provide the leadership and representation that enables the Chamber to be the Voice of Business in our community.
